Broken transfer port cover on 1990's 90hp force....need help!

This spring I purchased a 17ft skiff with a 90 hp mid-1990's Force 2 stroke. I have had it out about 8 times and this past weekend it broke down on the water. It turns out that the fuel transfer port on the top cylinder had rattled loose and broke 2 of the 4 screw holes on the left side of the cover. I was able to secure the screws enough to get back to port, and now I need to find a replacement cover. It seems like I might have some trouble locating one since the engine isn't made anymore. So i have a few things that I need some input on:

1) I want to confirm the engine year and model so I get the right part. The previous owner said it was a 1993, but is there anyway to confirm this using the serial number, which is 0E022112?
2) Can anyone recommend some sources of locating a transfer port cover (iboats doesn't seem to carry them)? I also plane to replace the gaskets.
3) Could the loose cover have caused any damage to the engine? This has me concerned that there may some other issues with the engine as well....what else should I check (besides the other port covers). I plan to do a compression test once the engine is back together.
4) Any other input or recommendations would be appreciated.


Prior to this I did have some issues with the boat bogging down while trying to get up on plane. It didn't happen every time, but would happen at least once every time I had it out. Do you think a loose cover could be the source of this issue?

1. The cover is the same part (except for color) that has been used on Chrysler and Force engines since the 1960s. ALL covers are cast with a couple of bosses and tapped for hose fittings if needed. These tapped holes can be plugged.

The loose transfer cover will affect performance since a lot of crankcase compression and vacuum will be lost. That cylinder would run as if it had a closed throttle. So, the engine would not deliver its rated horsepower.

As long as the cylinder did not go lean and detonate, there should be no damage to the engine--with qualifications. If you did not run it forever and it had sufficient oil to prevent scuffing then no damage will have been done. Simply look at the piston through the bypass ports to inspect it. A few scratches will not affect performance.

I have TONS of those bypass covers just laying around. It is very rare for them to break. If you don't mind white ones, send me a private message with your email address.

You can buy gasket paper in the auto stores (grey, 1/32 thick) and easily cut your own gasket.
