Re: Buffing Boat

actually Frank, I'm hoping that someone with experience in this area would comment. I used to work in a body shop and have buffed out car paint finishes before. The big warnings in this area was to keep the buffer moving so as not to let it stay in one spot and burn the paint, and use very light pressure. I would be interested if this technique applies to gel coat finishes. There are a number of good marine finish restoration products available from 3M that are very effective. I bought an old 69 Sea Ray last year that needs a little attention.

if its just slightly oxidized, use rubbing compound first then 2-3 coats of a good wax. i used a little cheezy buffer from wallyworld and it works great. not enough hp to burn the paint, just enough to polish nicely whilst massing my aching arms/hands. if its badly oxidized, check out a product called marine penetrol...there's a post on it on the boats forum. good luck.

I discovered this product while living in New Orleans. This stuff is totally amazing. A lot better than Starbright or Maquires. I used it on an oxidized boat and it came out beautiful.

Pro-Tec
