Im getting ready to tackle my next project for the boat. When I went through the boat 4 years ago I put in some used Wise Back to back lounges. They aren't in the best condition and they don't match my interior at all. I have an original lounge seat for the boat that the foam and upholstery is shot on. I like the design of the original seat. I do not like the after market seats. They feel cheap and they look very aftermarket. I have reupholstered much of the rest of the interior. When I ordered the material for the interior i ordered enough in case one day i get froggy enough to tackle the lounge seats. That day has arrived. I'm thinking of building them from the ground up. This way I can have exactly what I want. My first question for anyone who has done this before or may have some insight would be what wood to use, mainly the thickness, for the base. I am using exterior ply for the base. It will have two coats of west system to seal it then wrapped in carpet. I feel 3/4 would have a sturdy premium feel with a lot of add weight. 1/2 should do the job just fine and with the proper support it should feel near as sturdy. Which one is the better choice?

I'd go with the 1/2"
