Re: Building Question

Weeellll I learned the 2nd and 3rd rule of construction today. #2.. no pencil will hold up a 6 million dollar job. and #3 If you use a nail gun you will use 12 times as many nails as you needed. Dont know how you construction guys made it before peeenuuumatic nailers. Did finish blocking floor joist though after sccrouggging around for a pencil and making a trip to the lumber yard for another case of nails.

Re: Building Question

thats what I do...glue and nail/screw...I measure up the starting ends 4ft and then snap a reference line with a chalk line...keep the sheets square even if the box is a little out...

start and go...I lay one sheet and get it squared and nail it down..I stand on that sheet and do the next until I got the 1st row...from there it is all down town...

Built my shop with one of those guns.It was worth buying more nails and shooting everything with some extra nails.
I had all 4 walls up and the plywood along with the roof trusses in one evening.

Re: Building Question

Know what you mean about estimating nails. Putting tongue and groove knotty pine on the walk out level of a log home I am finishing up. Had a half box of 2" finish nails, 2nd day bought another box of 2000. Am now just ready to open the second box of 2000 I got a couple of days ago and only have half the space done.

You will never have enough pencils. It seems that I finish up the last hour or so each day marking my cuts with a nail or scratch awl when I have broken or misplaced the six or so I started the day with.

The old Amish fellow that built my cabinets never uses a pencil but makes all his marks with a pen knife. Says a pencil line if too thick for accurate cuts.
