Just got a new boat with a classic 90 hp. Boat has a built in tank which is new to me. I'm used to the 6 gallon removable tanks. This boat has a 20 gallon tank.

So the question is in the winter (9 months in Canada) what do I do with the tank? No premix.

1. Fill it and use this gas in the spring? I will add stabilizer.

2. Use as much gas as possible and leave it with stabilizer. Come spring, fill it with fresh gas.

3. Fill all 20 gallons and then emplty in the spring and put it in the car. Real pain in the but.

I've read a lot of posts and still don't have a consensus. I was used to having 5 gallons of gas left over that would run my weed wacker, lawn mower and sprinkler pump for the summer season.

Ideas?

tx.

Joe

Here are the answers you will get.
Yes to number 1.
Yes to number 2.
Yes to number 3.
Provide heated temperature and humidity controlled storage environment.
Move to Mexico for the winter, so you can continue to use the boat.

At least you're going to use stabilizer.

Re: Built in Tank

I've done all three. I've never really had any problems with gas that has been stored for 7-8 months. One year I must have accumulated a little extra water condensation, and the engine ran rough for a few hours.

I live just next door and so have same winter conditions.
18 imperial gallon straight gas built in.
I just add sta bul sufficiant for the amount of gas left in the tank and tap off of it for the snowblower or generator as I need it. Add some methel Hydrate in the spring and never had a fuel related problem.

Re: Built in Tank

Never had a problem with water in tank but I add methel hydrate in the spring just in case. also have a hard mounted water seperater. I change that once a season. I try to leave the tank as full as possible but I dont go out of my way to fill it up. Maybe I should as it is a great supply if we ever get a ice storm or power out again . (have generator)
I boat on any water deep enough and some times water that isn'. LOL
Usually Lake Ontario between Pickering and St. Kits. Simco, Georgian Bay ,Lake Panache & Tube Lake near Walord Falls. I scrub bottom at Sauble Beach from time to time also.
