Bunk building and replacement

I need to replace my bunks. They are currently through bolted to the trailer flanges where the bunks sit. I'd like to do it this way again but the question is, should I use carriage bolts or standard bolts, and in either case should I fill the void left by countersinking them with epoxy or something? I don't want to leave a recess where water will sit and I don't want the top if the fastener to spin under the carpet when I am mounting them. Can I use treated lumber on steel with galvanized fasteners or go stainless? I am trying to build these in advance so i can just R&R the bunks next time out.

Ayuh,... I'd use P/T lumber, with galvanized carriage bolts, 'n not worry abit about the counter-sinks...
The carpet will hold gallons of water compared to the counter-sink depressions...
Just keep 'em to an absolute minimum depth..

Very similar here. Regular wood, SS carriage bolts with a slight countersink to keep the head below the wood. I also route the edges of the 2x6 to round them off.

i found that the TREX 1"x6" works very nice. 1. the contour, 2. the rigidity, 3. will NEVER rott. and the carpet adhesive sticks real well. there like 26$ each side here. but to never have to replace them again. pricless

i use pT wood and stainless staples and 1 inch galvanized lag bolts for 1 1/2 pt wood and have never has any problems

What is TREX? I've never heard of it.... synthetic wood for decking?
