I purchased these:

However did not notice the u-bolt size. This is designed for a 2" of 3" trailer frame. My frame is 1 3/4" x 6". etrailer is telling me no avail u-bolts for this size. The 'extra long' ones they have are 6" long for frames up to 5 1/4" tall.

I searched and searched an cannot seem to find what I need. I did find a place that will custom make the u-bolts but I'll end up spending more on eight of those than I did for the entire kit from etrailer. Does anyone know where I can find stock ones?

I need

A: 3/8"
B: 2 1/2"
C: 6 1/2" to 7"

Or - would having the tube 'holders' welded to a 1 3/4" frame give them enough strength?

I do see your problem. I have a few ways around it. First you could take standard threaded rod in the appropriate size and with a vice, simply bent some yourself. Second option, take another flat piece of metal and clamp the top to the bottom using long carriage bolts, like a standard trailer jack is mounted. Third option is to have them welded to the frame. That is a permanent way but if you are sure you want them forever, that works great too...

I'm pretending the getting older thing isn't happening to me.

My beautiful, loving and supportive wife just walked behind me as I had the link for the u-bolts up.

"what are you buying"

"haven't bought yet. I'm trying to decide if I want to spend $50 on parts, spend a day working on the boat and make three trips to the hardware store or spend $100 and have it done in half a day"

"Honey, either way you will make three trips to the hardware store"

I love her.....

I thought I was the only one that had to meet those 2 "requirements" to complete a job. Glad to know I'm not the only one.

In my world, I also don't consider a job done unless I got to buy a new tool to do it...
