Bunk Mounting Question

I'm replacing the bunk brackets on my trailer and would like to know if the bolt that holds the mounting bracket on the trailer to the mounting bracket on the bunk should be tightened enough so the bunk won't pivot. Or should it remain loose enough for the bracket to pivot back and forth some.

Re: Bunk Mounting Question

I replaced my bunks and brackets a while back and initially I let the bunks pivot some but then after the boat was properly loaded trailered onto the new bunks, I crawled underneath and tightened everything up. I've found that over time, things will loosen up some and the bunks will pivot a little. I then just repeat the process.

Thanks! I wasn't sure since my last trailer had wobble rollers.

Re: Bunk Mounting Question

Welcome. To add to my comments, I made sure that the angle of the bunks was basically correct but left a little play in them so when I loaded the boat on them, they would adjust themselves to the angle of the hull. My dad never used to keep his bunks tight on the boat I own now and we were always having to make sure they were angled properly when we loaded the boat on the trailer. Not sure why he never tightened them and I was too young to know any better. :)
