bunks v transom

my bunks dont extend past the rear of my boat, there is maybe 5" space. is this close enough to support the transom or am i going to get a hook? how long will it take for a problem with the hull to devolop if this is not ok?

If and how soon a problem develops depends on how far you trailer, how fast you trailer, and how rough the roads are. Can't you move the boat forward on the trailer? Winch posts are normally adjustable. If not, the trailer is too short for your boat.

my concern is that this has been sitting this way at the dealer for at least a year. i think i can move the winch enough, maybe just.

That looks to be about 3" unless you have very long fingers, the transom should about 2.5" thick or more, so you are very close to, or at the transom right now. If you want it at, or past (mine is) the transom, just move the post a couple of inches, or put on a longer bunk (it's just a board).
