Re: But I NEED a BIG car.

Tough finding a vehicle that "fits" for bigger folk. Our Pontiac Grand Prix and Chevy Trailblazer were bought with me fitting into it comfortably as a prime concern.

I guess this shows it's all about perception. I thought our '05 Grand prix was all hood and tiny inside ... that was one of the primary reasons for getting rid of it

Chevy Trailblazer were bought with me fitting into it comfortably as a prime concern. Now we have 2 vehicles that work nicely for us they don't make them any more !!! Going to be in the same situation when it is our turn to start looking again.
.

Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier, SAAB 9-7x (SAAB was owned by GM for a time) are some of the best bang for the buck hands down in the used market. You can get them with a 4.2, 5.3 or 6.0, awd, 4wd and on and on depending on which model. They each just get awful mileage and of course the third row was only available on the Trailblazer and Envoy version in I6 or v8. Also Kenmyfam, they started making a new Trailblazer again as a body on frame suv, its just not available in the US. I had a loaner, old school, Buick Lucern for a couple weeks last summer, which was I think a 2011and the only redeeming quality about the whole thing was the side mirrors told you that a car was in your blind spot. The Buick La Crosse is soooo much nicer.

To each their own I guess. I think the Lucern is one of the best "road cars" (comfort and space) I've ever owned.

Oh it would have been a great cruiser but I had to commute in it for a couple of weeks and not that I'm a car snob because I normally don't care, but I got funny comments about it when the kids' friends parents saw me get out of it. You know the old man car comments. On the same token I also had a loner Chevy HHR last year and was as close to a clown car as I've ever experienced but the 39mpg's made up for it. The Lucern and some of the other larger vehicles that were produced nearly identical for a long time reminds me of some boats where the builder hardly changed anything for many model years such as my sig boat. I love big cars and big vehicles and have had almost exclusively big cruisers for decades so much so that I moved to all suv's to get the height as well. Back to that Crown Vic I mentioned I rented in Arizona, it was really difficult to park because it took up the entire spot and there were times we all couldn't open our doors more than a crack when the lots were full and couldn't pick a different spot. A couple times I half expected someone to have keyed or otherwise took their frustrations out on it when they couldn't enter their cars.

The tallest of my friends is 6'10" at 275 lbs and drives a Honda civic... and has more room than I do.
New cars are just to narrow and lack elbow/shoulder room for big guys. I'm 5'9" and 296 lbs.

Re: But I NEED a BIG car.

I tend to have different vehicles for different uses. We got go fast toys, trucks, an econ box, etc. Now I need to replace my "road car" and so far I'm still left wanting.

Well, if we had a bigger garage, I'd be a car nut with a much larger boat. I have to somehow find vehicles that in one package can tow, are appointed nicely, don't cost too much, do well in snow and ice, are safe. The don't cost too much part is usually the hardest part to satisfy. What I want and can afford are much different than what I actually drive. If I had to add a car that I can sit comfortably in because I was so tall, it'd be much more difficult.
