I cradle is exactly what it sounds like. You build something that will support the sides of the hull so that they don't move out of shape as you remove the floor, stringer and transom. I usually take measurement starting at the transom and measure across the hull (beam) and make a sketch and place those measurement on the boat sketch. And I do every foot to the bow. That way you have a good measured sketch so that everything fits back like it is supposed to. And that is extremely important if you decap the hull.
