Buying spare prop for mid-range Johnson?

I will be getting the Lowe Angler 165S, with a 40HP Johnson 2 stroke tomorrow.<br /><br />I would like to purchase a spare prop, but do not know where to begin.<br /><br />Should I buy just another standard prop, or are there any advantages to buying a high performance (ss, etc.) prop and keep the original as a spare.<br /><br />Any input is welcome.

Hello.<br />Buy an old clunker as a spare that will get you back to shore when the other one decides to sink or some bad luck like hitting that hidden rock.When that has happened presumably some time in the future invest in a good strong prop and put the clunker in the spares box again.<br />Boats can be holes in the water that people throw money into.

Being next to the Rocky Mountains, I'm a bit landlocked, so junkers are a little harder to find.<br /><br />I would be willing to spend a little more for a better prop and save the original for a spare.<br /><br />Keep in mind that this is my first boat, so I have not fully come to grips with the "hole in the water" syndrom quite yet, so I'll take advantage ;~)<br /><br />Any other prop ideas for the 2001 40HP 2-stroke Johnson and 16.5 aluminum Lowe?

I bought a composite prop for my spare. It saved me more times than I can count. It didn't cost an arm and a leg either. I mail ordered it out of the Bass Pro Shop catalog I think.
