Hi,
I've got a Mariner 40, 2-stroke, 2-cyl, 1994. I wonder if there are any risks in bypassing the engine fuel connector (part# 22-816856A1, part 44 in this schema http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show_Pictures3.asp?dnbr=808744%2094&ivar=images/MERMAR/808744.94/13.png&inbr=494&bnbr=130&bdesc=FUEL+PUMP+%28ELECTRIC%29 and connect a hose directly to the fuel filter instead. The reason for me is that steering cables and harness tend to bend and put some stress on the connector when in full turn.

Can I safely remove the connector? I'm thinking of constructing some tube for the hose to run through, just to keep it free from wearing.

Re: Bypass engine fuel connector

That's the way my boat is. I bought it that way but it also had a 15 gal tank mounted in the front then a flip seat built over it.The line runs through bottom of boat to rear then to primer bulb fuel water separator then to motor where it connects to the fuel filter and I have zero issue's unless I wanted to carry extra fuel....It's really up to you
