yeah that would be great for satellite too...there are some 150 channels on mine but I watch about 10-20 of them, the rest are unwanted stuff came in the package.

Re: Cable TV a la carte

It would kill the cable companies, that's why they're balking. Of the channels available out there, which would be the first to go. The religious and special-interest stations. There goes that revenue. Then the shopping channels would go away- no subscriberships means no revenue and no reason to keep the station. Eventually the channel selection would shrink to the point that we would have the 20-30 stations that actually made money, the costs would skyrocket because of the limited advertising space and the consumer would get less for their money.

The only change needed right now in the cable TV market is to eliminate the monopolies that the cities grant them. That is the greatest issue with cable right now as far as I am concerned. When I call customer service and am told that it will be a 2 hour wait just to speak to someone, that tells me that something is very wrong.

UFM82

Until they are forced to, I really doubt they will do it until they figure out how to make profit from it.

UFM... very good points, not many people would pay for those chanels.

What is this TV thing that everyone else keeps talking about? I usually dont have the time to start to look for it. :D

I have extreme basic cable, which means local channels only. 11 bucks a month.

Ken

Cable companies lose money? I don't think so. No matter what they do, it entails a price increase.

You mean you don't like watching the "Girls Gone Wild!" advertisements?

Hmmmm. Sounds good at first, but when you think about it, that would be like asking Kellog to offer only the raisins with no bran flakes.

Those raisins are gonna cost a lot more than raisin bran.

JB hit it right on the head. Cable TV a la carte sounds great but the cable companies will only raise the individual channel prices and you'll end up paying the same or more for less. Be careful what you wish for, you might get it.

At the least you won't have to put up with all of those crappy channels which you don't need, could be that it would force the cable companies to provide better quality programming.

The cable companies don't provide programming. They just deliver it.

I don't know exactly what will shake out in this, but my hunch is we will end up paying more for less, with ultimately less choice in the long run.
