Spoken by a true "Old Ironmaker" I would guess that if you stopped 10,000 people at random on the street only one would know what a tuyre was. I would have been that one since my great grandfather was a puddler in Wales before emigrating to the US. Plus when I was in college we had a working cupola on campus and had to do all the calculations for charging it in one of our engineering classes.

That 2l soda bottle line got me to thinkin... Line up some of those full of Coke, and have the mentos ready, and if you time the mentos drop just right you have a poor man's JATO :)

I bet more than 10,000 don't know the French word for nozzle. There are Steelworkers that don't have a clue what it is either. A Cupola can burn you just as badly as the 2700F Hot Metal from a 7000 ton a day Blast Furnace. There are only 6 left running here in Canada, back when I was working we had 6 operating Blast Furnaces at my company. Now there is 1. We also employed over 14,000 workers, now there are around 2500, maybe.
