Miramichi, NB, lads and lassies...I lived on the west coast (Van), worked in the rockies (Banff and Jasper), and lived in Ontario (Toronto and London), but this is paradise, people...the river is great for cruising, and 20 minutes away is coastal waters with all kinds of fun...the water is not crowded, and the boaters are friendly, courteous folk...bring on the summer, baby!

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Fish locally with the kids and skirt the edges of the Walleye Trail. Never right in, never quite out. The real fishing, however, requires a plane. Mike

Re: Calling all Canadian Boaters!!!

We boat out of Peterborough --- on Chemong Lake. Stay mostly on Chemong, Pigeon and bukhorn, but made the trip to Georgian bay last summer. This is our third season and our boat is living up to its definition --- you know the one about "a hole in the water, lined with fiberglass that you keep throwing money into." But there is nothing as relaxing as sitting at ancor on a nice sunny day, listening to the water lapping against the hull.

Hey all,

I live in Ottawa, but my boat is in Lake Massawippi (hence my user name) in the Eastern Townships of Quebec (near Sherbrooke).

Re: Calling all Canadian Boaters!!!

MarkHPCA, I boat in the Milles Iles river just below the rapids off Lake of Two Mountains.(It's only 10 minutes away from my house.) We do quite a bit of fishing on the river below the rapids. You really need to know the river, or it can get quite expensive!!!...too shallow in the summer. I stay along the north shore of the river and always have my depth sounder on.

Massawippi, I've always wanted to try that fine lake out east! How's the fishing on it? Any nice uncrowded camp grounds around it?

"God's Country" Christie Lake in the Ottawa Valley.
I'm thinking of taking my pontoon on the Big Rideau for a camping trip with the kids to either Ottawa or Kingston. Any advice would be appreciated.

Muskytroller:

We are on the same frequency....

I love Peterborough also. I have some customers there and spend a fair bit of time there. Been trying to convince my wife to move to Peterborough or Cobourg for years.

We're in Toronto. But she does not want to leave her family so we parttime in Trent river at the cottage that is rapidly evolving to a parttime home:

April to November every Friday nite to Sunday. At least 3 full weeks in summer and at least a weekend a month in the winter.

Best of both worlds? Probably not because Toronto is just way too busy now...

Joe

Re: Calling all Canadian Boaters!!!

Hey Cobra:

There is one campground that I know of on the lake. It's called "Camping du Lac Massawippi". It's at the opposite end of me on the lake so I don't know much about it.

As far as fishing goes, I'm not a big fisherman, some other members of my family would know more then me but... I have caught some nice size Bass right off of my dock as well as in our small fishing boat. I have heard of others who have caught some lake trout and brown trout in the lake as well. Of course there are also Perch and Sunfish but they are obviously of the "tiny" variety! :)

Anyway, it's a really nice lake and I would guess that at least 40%, if not more of the shore is un-developed so it makes for some really nice scenery.

P.S. When I say, my boat is in this lake, that's not really true since it hasn't been delivered yet (July 3rd!!!) but I have been coming to our cottage on the lake for almost 23 years and have been on the lake in all kinds of little boats!
