It looks like you will still be able to rent houseboats at Temple Bar after all. According to Temple Bar Marina, "After the first of the year houseboat rentals just won't be moored at Temple Bar. If we get requests for rentals, we will transport them over from Callville Bay for our guests". I don't know if there will be a 'transport' fee but with the price of fuel I can't imagine they would do it for free..

Yeah, we cruised the boat through the rich hood on the way back to the dock on Sunday and saw 1 going out......

A little personal update...was hoping to be able to snag a boat before the end of the year, but life has never been predictable so this will have to wait till about July or so. Oh well. It'll still happen.

OK, so boat is winterized mostly. Now I get to take care of the things that I have ignored since I picked the boat up in late May........Clean the garage, yard and other chores that seem more challenging than rebuilding a 454.

It's not as bad as it sounds. The consolation prize is that we'll be trying to buy a house and get out of this rental. So I guess practicality won over desire. We'll see how it all plays out.

Do you's guys go out on the lake in the winter? What is it like? How do you prepare differently than summer?

I have the full camper screen setup minus one small section above the windshield. I need to get a upholstery shop to make the missing piece.

I go out to Mead/Mohave all year long, though I'm a fisherman and put up with the cold and freezing weather. I'll even camp out there, though you have to prepare for cold weather, couple of sleeping bags per person. As long as you have enough cold weather gear, you'll be fine. Just remember, it gets cold out there, 30-40 degree temperature swing, 60-70 during the day could mean 30-40 at night. I've froze my butt off enough times to respect the cold nights out there.

I don't winterize my I/O boat since I take it out all year long, but if it's going to be freezing out, I drain the block and manifold. When I load out a the lake during the winter, I drain the block and manifold at the launch ramp, haul it up to the parking lot, stow everything, then close the drains. The engine is empty and ready for freezing weather (if we get it) and also ready to hit the water again for my next trip.

Oh yeah, did I mention it gets cold out there??? :D

It can get down to the teens during one of the cold snaps. We lost somewhere between 5-10 engine blocks that weren't winterized at T-Bar one year.

I do other things during the winter and only come out to work on the place or the boat for the next season.

If you hit the water at 4am,start with thermal underwear, sweats and big jackets and beanie and gloves that you can move your fingers easily.maybe 2 pairs of socks too.Little by little as the sun rises youl strip them off and put them back on at times or at end of day,you wont get cold. Its the launch ramp that gets weird now, when its cold, nobody wants wet socks lol.Find a system that works great for your trailer and boat without having to touch water.I even have rubber boots that go half way up my calf.

Hey guys, I am planning to do some winter fishing, but all I have is a bimini and a convertible top that is missing the poles for it. I need to get the poles so I can get my convertible top on, do you guys know any places in Vegas where they work canvas and or I could get those poles for my convertible top?

You can buy them on iboats or do a self rig from lowes. Its all about who you know and what they can do on this one.Maybe craigslist, seen them a couple times there.Keep me in touch.

There are a bunch of upholstery shops down town that do canvas too, I've bought upholstery supplies from a couple and saw boats there. Best to pick up the phone and call around. If you just need a couple aluminum poles, that should be a pretty easy job.

DIYing it wouldn't be that hard, hardest part would be finding the anodized tubing. You could use raw aluminum tubing, but I wouldn't as it will discolor your canvas if it rubs up against it.
