Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

I went 70 in a friend's boat in the 80's and that was too fast for me. :blue:

The boat in the video was very smooth but so was the lake toward the end.....scary speed!

It would have been an excellent 4 day weekend to be out there. Calm and in the 70's. I can't ever plan to take advantage of the good weather.

Just have to do it last minute... I don't "winterize" my boat per se, so I can go out all winter long. I just drain the block and manifold at the ramp before leaving, or at home when the temps start dropping.

WOW
176.4 mph boat on Havasu. Mouth to the dam in just under 12 min!:flame:

That's fly'in!!!

But,,, it's only 5 times as fast as my ol barge  :second::scared:

That's right! Same for me - there's nothing wrong with 2nd place, right?:second: :D

..1/5 the speed and 1/5 the cost! Hell, maybe 1/20 the cost

I skied behind a boat that would do 106 back in the early 80's. He pulled me up through Topoc Gorge around 75mph on a 66" Jobe double boot that I competed in a couple times and even trophied at Big Bear once...back in the day

gong to try to stay out of boulder basin and marina life  this year and get back to simpler times i had to start with on the 230

son and wife have been trying to get me to sell it. glad i hung on and kept it.

any way, would be very happy to read about any current weather-lake-launch conditions you guys see.

Happy Holidays Jax

Temple Bar launch ramp is in excellent condition. The lake elevation is already up a couple feet since the low point ( :clap2:), and should reach 1119 next week. I'm hoping we see at least 1135 next year for a Grand Canyon trip :joyous:

Have a great trip and Merry Christmas to you and your family

Is anyone interested in a G.C. trip this spring if the elevations allow? We could meet @ TBar, take off in the morning, have lunch in the canyon and be back late that afternoon. Post up if you're in and we'll take it from there. It wouldn't be until late spring when it's warm and the ele. is up...hopefully

Does 1135 solve the rapids? My worry is seeing the channel at the transition point from blue to mud . . .

Yes, that elevation covers the new rapids. Some friends went up earlier this year (last Spring) when it was around 1132 and they went up to Columbine, no problem. You're always going to get the muddy water no matter what, so you just need to take it slow until it clears up.

I'm Interested. If we can't make it upstream, we'll just anchor and be of some support for those who can!

Great. That's 4 already if QC's in. I'm on here sporadically these winter days so we can bump it up and take a head count at some point probably in Feb. That will give us a couple months to plan it. It would be great if we could get 5-10 or even more. I know I can probably get 2 or 3 from TBar to go, maybe more. It could blow up and 10-15 from TBar go. It's very possible! The only problem would be finding a beach big enough

I'm in depending on boat. I've got pretty used to the non-tow type deal leaving her at Havasu. Let me get my head wrapped around paying attention to my trailer again

How far up do you consider it to be, before you guys call it Grand Canyon? (I'm from Phoenix, so excuse me)

I call it the GC when you pass the marker . . . ;) Just downriver from Columbine. About a mile.

I'd love to go if I can make it up. Been promissing the kids a trip that way for 2 years :(, the wife says "Fine, take your boat and be sure to take both kids, see ya when you get back". Sounds perfect to me... :)

Ok, I've never been there, only Powell, so I see places like Line Cove, Chuckwalla Cove, Driftwood Island, Twin Coves on Google Earth, is that the area your talking about?

Thanks

Ok, I see it on a NPS map, all the way up past Pearce Ferry.
