I have a 2004 Freshwater Bow mount foot controlled Motorguide the cable that runs from the foot pedal to the Motor head is a bit short and difficult to use on my Lund as I don't have a forward casting platform. Can this otherwise nice motor be converted to a hand operated one by some miracle, otherwise I have to sell it,,,,Thanks for your input. Wally

I've been debating the same Wally. The foot control on my 15 year old OMC Cobra has suffured from exposure and has become hard to manuever and the speed control will not turn. The cables could be removed, a handle and a variable resistor (speed control) could be mounted to the "head". But your motor is nearly new, I wouldn't do it. You could sell yours for a good price with the proper advertising (here), or sell it to me cheap. Check out one of those "drive by wire" models with the extra-long wires.

I have a MinnKota that I bought cheap.($35). It came with two foot controls. One didn't work, the other was ok but going out. I took the old one apart and found what wires go where and made a hand controlled box. I got all the parts from Radio Shack. Mine was mostly switches, and a potentimeter. It works great. So it can be done. I did sacrifice the cable off the broken control.

Some models can be converted to remote control but I think it is only the ones with auto pilot. Call the company and ask.
