If you only remove the bolts on the side you are dealing with, it shouldn't move at all, but relieving the weight wit the lift or a floor jack under the skeg will help to prevent it from shifting if it was going to shift at all. And no, its not a lot of weight. When ever I remove a large outboard and leave it hanging on the lift, I lower it so the skeg is on the ground and the lift is more balancing it than actually suspending it. I do this to prevent the hydro from bleeding down. It would be best to engineer the plate first so all you have to do is unbolt and then rebolt in a short amount of time. <br /><br />You can always disconnect the linkages to be safe, it doesn't take long to disconnect that stuff.
