Re: Can a trolling motor be mounted on a 1977 Sportcraft C-Gull?? Need help!!!
It's do-able, but the bow light will need to be changed, pole mounted of separate port/starboard markers.
You'll need to fab up a flat platform to mount the trolling motor, but that can be done easy enough with some
Starboard. I would get a thick piece and route out the bottom to fit the contour of the hull, but you can stack it also. Make the plate big enough that it fits the footprint of the trolling motor, it has sufficient contact with the hull and the motor shaft hangs over properly. The adapter plate will need to be securely mounted to the boat and that's going to be the toughest part as it doesn't look like there is any access inside the hull to through bolt it, so you'll need to attach it with 6-8 stainless screws, I'd use #12 or #14 screws.
I had a plate like that mounted on my old tri-hull and it worked just fine for the trolling motor, though I made mine out of plywood, which checked and cracked since I didn't fiberglass the plate. I glued it down with marine sealant before screwing it down,,, and I couldn't get it off when I junked the boat.
Something like this;
