Re: Can anyone point me to the "Whole Story" on Mercury/Yammie/Force?
I try to forget most anything made prior to 1990 with memory failing fast after 1980
. but yes I remember a bunch of old stuff from the late fifties and early sixties. in the lake whitney area and the general mid texas area we still worked with martins, attwaters, champions elgins ,white and red mercs and chyslers out the wazoo. in my area salt ate them up many years ago
. I ran a mid 70 chysler for many years in texas and to my knowledge its still chugging. we had it on a maint cycle and stuck with it over the years and she is still burning gas. water pump t stats and a fuel pump every year. resealed the gearcase and replaced the head gasket every 3 years. spent a lot of time working on it each year but never had any on water failures with it. replaced the points every spring and ran the heck out of it. took 2 days a year or so to maintain it but it showed me and many others that replacing certain parts before they fail can actually save some coins later.
