Re: Can anyone suggest best line to grind???
Okay Gary, Hopefully you can now see my shareaproject link. I'll post some more pics f how the transom now looks as the ones on there didn't allow complete removal of the old transom. I've cut right back to the edge of the old transom. I never imagined it went right the way out to the edge of the boat. I've basically got myself into a situation that I no longer know how to resolve. I've changed my mind on the seacast now as my initial measure up and costings didn't allow for the full width, and that now makes it uneconomically viable to use this method, so I'm back to the traditional ply method. Firstly, I'm no carpenter, but I thought I'd make a template using cardboard to get the shape for the new transom. Is this the best method or do you have an alternative suggestion? Then I still dont fully understand the implications of the thickness of my transom. The problem is, the width almost all the way across is 1 1/2 inches, except for the last 5 inches either side, which is approximately 1 inch. Am I right in guessing I need two sheets of 3/4 inch ply, one piece being 10 inches wider than the other, but the two of them centred and glued together with resin? If this is the case, wha else do I need to buy? I have a couple of G clamps for clamping the top of the inner skin and the new transom while the resin go's off, and I can strut from my garage door to the outside of the transom to hold it that way. I am not worried about this hull being out of shape cos its REAL strong, hardly any flex in it at all. After this though, I don't know how to re-glass the hull. I assume I'm gonna have to grind out part of the underside to make the surface area of the repair bigger??? Or can I simply glass onto the existing part directly below the transom ply? Thanks guys, in advance
