You really need to study up on batteries or you will be making another mistake. For a trolling motor you need a DEEP CYCLE not a MARINE STARTING battery. Read the labels. The Sears battery at $226 is outrageous. Check your yellow pages for a Farm Store and go to their Auto or Fishing Department. They generally have group 27 deep cycles for $75.00 with 175 - 185 minute RC. Forget the advertising hype and read the data labels - after you've studied a bit so you understand what the label is telling you and after you understand how much power the troller draws.

To be honest see if you can get a fully sealed battery because the vented ones are not designed to be rolled upside down and if you sit in spilled acid it will burn your ........

This is a Canoe!
If it rolls over and the battery is not totally secured, it is going to the bottom and take the motor with it.
If there is a spill in the rollover, there is going to be 100+ gallons of water in the boat to dilute and neutralize it.
Realistically in a rollover, some acid leaking out the caps is going to be one of the minor issues.
Righting the canoe with all that fixed weight might be problematic.

Why spend 200 bucks when you could have gotten away with 80, plus a lighter battery?

How many hours are you going full throttle in that canoe? Are you following Lewis & Clark's trail?

That should cover it. Let us know how well it works out for you. Remember deep cycle batteries like to be FULLY recharged as soon as possible after being used.
