If you are in a 40% tax bracket(including state) spending $1 to save $0.40 does not sound like a good financial plan to me. :) Won't even talk about the depreciating asset part.

I would agree but it makes justifying the 200K boat much easier. :)

Every hour I work I am also paying an extra 250 or so dollars per hour in taxes so far this year with another quarter yet to go. That does not include any property taxes, fees, sales taxes, etc. To say I am unhappy with this is a bit of an understatement.

I'm with some of the above and suggest a lightly used boat from someone who is in over their head and needs to offload it or just didn't use it as much as they had anticipated. Both those scenarios are very common here in MN where we all have a boat in the garage. Sounds like you are on the right track financially. 30k becomes a rounding error when your quarterly taxes are 200k four times a year and you start to despise lawmakers for the tax code. Every quarter, all I see is the large boat worth of money that is being taken from me and my family. I say jump in and buy the biggest/newest but used boat you can.

I agree with all but "the biggest newest",,, go for quality.

The more people that leave MN leaves me with more lakes to use.

But we love the snow that is why we stay!

I too enjoy the snow~~~ seeing it on the Weather Channel. I'd never live there again. Even donated burial lots to the church in Ohio as I don't even want to be buried in the cold.

First, Y'all up in the Great White North are crazy! I've lived in snow before, and will never go back except to visit (and then rarely!).
To the OP, I'm selling one toy for another. Motorcycle for boat (cant take the family on a bike). Seeing as my interest is slalom, I'm looking at 1990 (or so) OB ski boats about $3K.
Grew up with dad having a boat with a 115 merc, never a single issue... I'm still in love with outboards, and I really like the look of the 2 stroke merc behind a boat.
It may not fit your wants, but Yamaha is also in your price range, and low maintenance costs. But they are no where near the build quality of Sea Ray.
