Can I install temp and oil warning buzzers?

I have a new omc 5.7 engine and the old engine did not have any warning buzzers/alarms.

Can I install some? Temp and oil pressure is what I'm wanting.

What parts do I need?

I added a over temp snd low oil pressure system to 1999 VP 5.0GL. I "tee" the oil pressure sender and used a 7psi pressure switch. I threaded factory (newer boats) VP temp senders into the exhaust risers for the over temp. I bought a crazy loud (125dB) piezoelectric siren and wired the sensors thru a time delay relay so it has 3 seconds to build oil pressure before alarm goes off for starting.

....and if you don't elect to install a crazy loud warning siren, at least install warning lights as sounds in a busy boat underway can sometimes get lost.

My last engine lost oil pressure quick and it pretty much blew. So with this new eningine I have just been watching the gauges every five secs or so.

But it's really a PITA. I always watch the gauges but it would be great to be able to do something or take my eyes off the gauges without worrying.

Maybe I'm just being over paranoid. I dunno but some audible alarms would be great.



I'll have to check out the pressure switch and siren you used mike. You don't happen to have a link do you?

You can get the oil pressure switch and temp sender (usually 200 or 210?) from most auto parts stores, or even a Mercuriser dealer sells them (Cheaper than NAPA's fance 2 way switches anyway).
Then a radio shack buzzer of your choice and some wiring to the engine and you are set to go. The switches are what hooks the buzzer to ground when they make contact.
