Re: Can I put U-Bolts here for Skiing and Tubing ?

As someone who has the IDENTICAL boat and identical pylon to the link posted way above, I can tell you from 12 years of owning that boat, that not once did I have an issue with a tube being pulled on it. Had tubes flip over, had ropes break, but yet the fiberglass and pylon held without so much as even a crack in the gelcoat. The only issue is that the boat would end up at an uncomfortably steep angle if you get a tube that bogged down inside a turn.

Honestly if the pylon isn't strong enough for tubing, there is no way I'd want to ski behind it either. A strong experienced slalom skier can put almost as much pull on the line as a flipped tube.

That is the siliest thing I've heard in a long time. A strong slalom skier can not get anywhere near the force of a tube that digs in. The skier is limited by the force of his grip.

Agreed, if you've ever had a tube "submarine", it's like dropping an anchor. I can pull pretty hard on slalom, and being 230lbs, but there's no way my grip can take the same pull as a tube creates.

I agree that a tube can pull harder if it goes under - I just have never had a tube do that - we have always pulled single size tubes and are careful to no let the rope get slack and we don't go very fast 20-25 tops. With my dad's boat we have done it from his pylon as long as I can remember (there were no warning stickers on his boat) Of course most of us ski 90% of the time. But I understand the warnings, but I wonder if they are more applicable to the 2 or 3 seater tubes? I do have a booster ball so i can still use that for tubes.

that's really cool! - I thought I had one of the few left of that era... I got it from a guy that I think mostly used it for fishing... the seats were like new when I got it last year and you could eat off the engine. Probably over paid some, but there was a lot of crap out there in the $3000 ish range. I think i put more wear and tear on it in a year than he did in 25 years - ha

Some tubes have the issue when you have someone sitting too far on the front of the tube, which causes the front end to dig in, especially upon first giving it throttle. Under-inflation can also contribute to the issue.
