Can I thin polyester resin, and if so, with what?

Started to glass the underside of the deck wood today. I'm using 1.5 oz. CSM and on an area roughly calculated at 1.8 square yards, 3/4's of a gallon of resin was used. I did read the sticky on fiberglass before hand and it says 4.2 square yards per gallon. I realize that that amount of resin recommended is a ball park amount, but after the small area I did, I'm not even close. So, if anyone knows how to thin resin, or if this isn't recommended, I'd like to know. Thanks

it is never recomended.....however .....we were just discussing this on another thread......some resins are thicker than others....

or you are putting to much resin on.
or....you are sitll first coating the wood.

you can thin with 10 % acetone......but no more.....10% is pushing it.....i would just get a different resin......3/4 gallon for 2 yards is a little much.

next time ...take a squeegee....or bondo spreader....and spread the resin....

let me see if i can find the link...
