Can I use my existing Transduder with a new Sounder?

I currently have a Sitex CVS-208 sounder. The sounder recently failed, and I want to replace it. Is it possible to use my existing transducer with another manufactuers sounder?

I believe my transducer model number is 300-50-200

Thanks in advance

Not likely, KRJ.

Only if the frequency, connector and impedance match. That is a stretch with the same brand and a different model, but with a different brand it would be a miracle.

Your transducer is a very common one and is used by a number of manufacturers. The problem is that Sitex uses a different style connector than most which leaves you with two options.

You can check and see if Airmar by chance makes an adaptor cable or you can do as I?ve done in the past and either use an interface box or splice a new connector onto the existing transducer. The wiring diagrams for the various transducers can be located on Airmar?s website at http://www.airmar.com/

BTW: I don?t know of any transducer that?s impedance matched or why you would want to do such a thing.

Just like audio stuff, dingbat.

For optimum signal transfer the source impedance and load impedance must match.
