Can somebody explain this mistery?

Not a long time ago I have posted a tread here about my choke not engaging (85 Force). Like many other problems, this one was "solved" through some brainstorming. The conclusion was - dead solenoid.
Alas, I replaced the solenoid and some interesting things happened.
1. If I position the solenoid in the proper place, it wouldn't work.
2. When I moved it about 1/4 inch higher (see photo) it worked as a charm.
I was happy and ready to enjoy a few more outings before the winter

I went out yesterday, launched the boat, tried to fire the engine - nothing. Cranking good, but not firing.
I spent about an hour and a half checking everything from gas pressure to spark plugs. Everything was OK but engine would not turn over.
My battery was just about to die while i was desperately thinking - what the hell was happening now.
Than, as a last try (although not the logical one - I thought) I moved the solenoid back down to the proper position. IT FIRED AT THE FIRST TRY (solenoid wasn't working though?)

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

If i had to guess,
Id say it was flooded and while you were fussing with the choke, it gave it the time to clear out enough to fire up.

Clearly a case of evil spirits. Have you offended any Native Americans (or Native Canadians) lately?

I think this would be the only logical explanation. I must have

Nope, before that I had all 3 spark plugs out and cleaned and that did not help.

I suspect that the solenoid has nothing to do with your starting problem, other than the fact that in a certain position, it won't engage the choke. First thing I would check is engine your kill circuit. Do you have a safety switch that you have to attach a lanyard with a clip to? Sometimes the switch itself is intermittent and may cause starting problems. To eliminate this problem, "temporarily" disconnect one of the wires that goes to the switch and see if that has any affect. If no affect, re-attach the wire.

If my brother had worked on the boat then I would check to make sure that the choke switch wasn't somehow cutting off power to ignition/coils. He had a way of getting wiring to do funny stuff.

No fire at all means no gas, no spark, or no compression. Choke only changes mixture. Even a bad choke will misfire if you have spark and compression. Since your problem went away then it is safe to say that compression is okay. That leaves spark as your most likely problem.

Well, I checked all 3 plugs for sparks and found no issues there. Wile I was cranking the motor it did not even try to start. I tried with and without push-choke button. Once it started, it worked like a charm, so no compression issues.
I am sticking to "bad spirits" explanation and will carry a broom to push the chokes at all times from now on.

I believe in your last post I recommended checking the gaskets between the carbs and airbox. With age they do swell and sometimes interfere with the choke stop levers. This will keep the choke from closing, sometimes intermittently.

when gas evaporates it leaves residue. Carbs work on venturi effect. The choke is suppossed to "choke" the inlet so that air velocity increases and venturi works better on fewer cubic inches of air. It is possible that your carb is gummed up to point that it isn't drawing fuel through venturi at low air volumes (fancy way of saying when carb gets gummed up sometimes the starter can't spin engine fast enough to make them start working).

If you're 100% positive that the spark is good and that fuel is being delivered into carberator ... then there isn't much left except a problem with the carb's ability to deliver air/fuel mixture.
