Hello I'm doing a Bellow and a gimbal job on my Alpha One Mercruiser Gen 2

I was wondering if anyone can tell me what this gasket is for

That would go in the u-joint bellows. Before installing the drive, it seals against the drive cone to keep water out of the bellows and boat. Have you pulled the drive? It will be there unless someone didn't put it in. If not you may have some very rusty parts in there.

I have pulled it off already and have replaced all the bellows. But i did not really notice where that gasket came from

So just to confirm

U jount bellow- bellow retainer ring then this gasket and finally i can install the drive unit ?

It MUST be glued into place... It goes into the bell housing and stops up against the stainless steel bellows lock ring.

How do you guys hammer in the bellow retaining ring ? I destroyed one already

You dont, you get a can of "power tune" from a merc dealer , spray the bellow and ring and just push it into place this is assuming to installed the bellow correctly over the ridge

Yep, practically goes in by hand with powertune.

Mine went on EASILY by hand with Powertune. I never got the special tool.
