The thing on the first pic. I'm guessing that is the exhaust but I'm not sure.

That looks like the plastic adapter from the water pump to the brass water tube. When you reattach the lower unit, it should plug into the water pump outlet. On earlier engines it was part of the pump. On later engines it stayed in the midleg.

From the photos, I can't tell if it is damaged or melted.

The oil leaks from the first pic so I'm guessing that's the exhaust? Does anyone have the same motor and know what it is?
