Wot is 60- 64 depending on conditions. Mostly 60 seems to be right. If theres no wind she wont chine walk, bit of wind and it will teeter a bit. 64 mph and i was at 5000 rpm running light. Its all a learning curve for me! Haha!

So irregardless of the ratio, the set up is pretty spot on, according to the prop slip calculator it has almost zero percent.

5000 is what your engine should turn at WOT?

If your actually hitting 5K rpm then your probably hitting the rev limiter. If you keep this up your might just float a valve. Your limit should be 4800 max

If that's a 98 and it's got Thunderbolt V ign, the rev limiter might be set at 4900-5000 if the rated RPM is 4800.

My 454 is rated at 4600. The engine will not rev past 4700 without the rev-limiter activating.

If you can find someone with a 28p 3x3 propset , you might try it....... I was "bumping" the limiter running 24's so I went to 26's and it was just about right.

I see those 28's on eBay every once in a while.....winter is the best time of year to buy a propset............

Its a '95 pre vortech 4 barrel. Nice motor. I believe ive read there was no rev limiter with that year.
Ive read a lot in this forum about upgrading to vortech heads, upgrading the airflow because apparently i was reading in a forum with bondo in it way back in 2003 ( i believe) that the airflow is restricted and its kind of like a cork in the system, but seems to be running fine.

I almost got a pair on e bay, hard to know what tour going to get. Either that or bite the bullet and buy new. 3x3 28p are more expensive than 4x3 27p up here. Wierd.... Eh?haha!

Yeah. Summer is not the time to try to buy Bravo III propsets!

I have 3 (24-3x3, 26-3x3, 24-3x4) I don't I paid more than $500 for any of them (incl shipping) I don't really like the 3x4 at all. It's no appreciable improvement over the original 3x3--24's

So it has been done i took the plunge and just ordered from joe at hills marine. They recommended their four by 4 28p. They have a lot of good reviews, they say they out preform the the standard and 4x3 props, they do have an exchange policy. I dont know many people who have tried them, other than the customer reviews on their website, hopefully they get here by the 13th when i take holidays!

Oh boy!!

Take pictures! Good thing that they'll exchange. If a 28p 3x3 is just right, a 28 4x4 might be a little over propped. But if they'll exchange, just don't damage the props and you'll be fine!!

So i've read the first socket needed for the b-3 is 1-7/16", and for the second big nut you need a 2-3/4" socket, at work because we do a lot of anchor bolt torquing ive had to cut a few 3/4 drive sockets in half, and weld a steel pipe between the 2 pieces to make it a deep socket. Ive seen that black socket on here as well and if that one with the octagon head (black) is tight surely a rounded end socket probably wont fit.

While i have the props off, is there any thing i should do? Grease the prop shaft? Or just swap out the props.

Thanks. ( i know all dodge i should have ordered the wrenches when you showed me pictures way back! Lol)

Just put some grease on the shaft and your good.

Hill Marine made me the first wrench they ever made for the deep front nut. Since I keep mine in the water during the summer I wanted to install the extra anode there. Use to use a pipe wrench to install the rear nut, and kept telling my self I should get a wrench or socket, finally did after so many years

So im assuming the second nut isnt recessed into the prop so there is access for a pipe wrench. Did the pipe wrench damage the threads at all?

My wrench is this one
Photo992.jpg

The pipe wrench never touched the threads, it just made some marks on the flats of the nut

Several years ago, I made a socket out of one of those axle sockets with rounded corners. I had to saw the corners and weld them to make it fit.
It worked fine and still does. I have subsequently bought the OEM socket. If you want my home made one you can have it. Just send me a PM.

Cheers,

Rick

Wow thats super generous! And yes alldodge you sent me pictures of that wrench once in another thread and here i am repeating myself haha!
Appreciate the wrench offer i just ordered a 2-3/4" bravo 3 lock nut socket. It was 70 bucks. Now i have to build a " boat shed" for all my freaking marine oils, greasy, polisher, props, etc!
The wife loves this ,it never ends!!!
When i told her i ordered the props and told her how much, all i heard was " they where how much??????????!!!!!" Then my automatic wife tune out mode engaged.
