Any chance this could be welded? Powerhead is off the unit so there is no gas, oil, ect to deal with at this time.

Not sure the material this is either- anyone?

What would you do if this was yours? Thanks
-John

What is it? The lift/carry handle? I'd take it to a good welding shop and ask them.

Re: Can this be welded back together?

AS a marine an specialty welding fabrcator: Yes. To be done properly the part needs to be removed and all the paint about 3/4" to each side, both sides need to be removed to bare shiny aluminum. Glass bead blasting works fine and should be washed with soap and water afterwards. The aluminum should be ground to 1/4" wide v almost all the way through. Leave enough material to realign the part with clamps. Preheat to about 400' F. TIG weld ONLY with 5356 filler only and NOT 4043 filler. you can do the prep work and the weldor should only charge a max figure of 25.00 to 50.00. Print these instructions out and watch your weldor dothe job..if they don't do as I have stipulated, TELL them do do it the way I have written here. Any other technique will fail and look like helll when it's welded.

That is the lift/carry handle. Not sure how it broke, was like that when I bought it 2 years ago. figured now was the time to get it fixed with the power head off and all.

Thanks for all the info- I will do as stated and see what the local welder will charge me for it. I have a handheld grinder so the prep is no big deal.

A friend told me to use JB Weld but im not so sure how well that will work. Thanks again!
-J

JB Weld will hold it in place but it will have no strength what so ever. The first time it gets bumped good it will break and it certainly would not be strong enough to lift the motor with.

Well we never really lift it up anyways- unless to take it off the boat (which we never do- unless the powerhead needs a rebuild) :D

-J

The material is aluminium, so there is only argon welding reach best result.
