Re: Can this swap be done??

We have an I.D. problem I think.
1. OMC never used the 292.
2. OMC never put an inline six in front of an 800 series drive.
3. The only 6 cyl I6 OMC used was the 250 and it was mated to an electric shift drive.

I took the GM casting number on the side of the engine block (352194) and cross-referenced...which is where I was under the impression that it was a Chevy 292

Dude, It's old, was probably changed by some DIYer years ago, much like what you are about to do.
Really makes it ruff for the next owner, doesn't it.

I cant agree with you more on making it hard on the next person!!!!!!!

My brain hurts from all this......BUT for $50 couldnt pass it up even though I am thinking I should have now!!!

Im just trying to find what my options are.....honestly dont want to run the OMC 800 outdrive which prompts me into this spiral of questions.:confused::confused::confused:

Alright probably beating a dead horse.....:D

Found this online and guy states that the bellhousing will fit a Chevy 292 (still not 100% convinced) but "supposedly" will fit the inline 6 292 and bolt up to the merc inner transom plate.....again sounds too good to be true.
