Can this trailer be rebuilt?

I think a trailer builder could replace the starboard side ogf this trailer then maybe I could swap my good axels under this thing and have a decent lighter aluimin trailer

My steel trailers days are numbered and I don?t want to spend a small fortune on a 22? boat trailer?
Thanks TB

Anything can be rebuilt if you throw enough money at it...

I'd be looking for a good used trailer (and boat and engine) and let the scrap dealer have that pile.

The winch and hitch might be salvageable... the rest is gone.

I say, YES. But it would cost more then a new one to "REBUILD" that trailer. I love savaging things myself. But it would take way more time and money then it is seriously worth. Look for another one. JMHO!

that trailer would probably cost you about $3500 to fix by the time you spend money on aluminum beams, then paid someone to form them. the heat damaged everything on that trailer.

with brand new aluminum tandem axle trailers going for $2800, why on earth would you want to spend more than that trying to fix one?

this trailer would probablley be almost free. I was thinking I could straighten out the bent side w/ a BFH, then reuse my axels. are you Guy's saying the aluimin has melted?

where are you getting $2800. trailers remember this boat is a 22' boat.

You clearly dont understand aluminum or working w it.

That trailer frame SAGGED, presumably from the heat of the fire.

Google

Work hardened aluminum

and

Heat damaged aluminum

Theres a reason that trailer is 'nearly' free. Its only worth whatever scrap aluminum is going for there. The only thing left for that trailer to do is become beer cans.

No you cant just beat the heck out of it w a hammer and use it.

All 5 tires are burned to a crisp and that includes the spare. The rail is sagged by the spare and the left rail is sagged by the axles. We can see the damage on the right side. The coupler may be salvageable. The rest is

Junk!

Okay "thebrain", here is what I would do if in your position. IF, and that is the real key word here, IF the trailer is free to whomever, take it and salvage it for the aluminum and use that money to help buy another trailer. That way you do get something out of it. It seriously isn't worth the labor and new material to rebuild it again in my humble opinion. I know because I have rebuilt trailers before. In fact you can click on my trailer rebuild link below and take a look. And that was a normal type trailer as well. JMHO!

Yes, the aluminum has been melted and lost all its tempering. Then when the water from fire department hit the aluminum, it crystallized the aluminum making it brittle.

Tampa bay or Sarasota Craigslist. There are about 6 trailer manufacturers selling new for $2800 or less. You can get a decent used one for about $1200. Used galvanized for $800 up. Less than that needs work
