We use our boat every weekend and it gets dirty scum lines water spots ect.

So I wash it on evrey Monday afternoon.
My question, is
it ok to wax it each time? Can you over wax. I just love the way it feels when I run my hand down her sides and it is so soft and smooth.
Wow that sounds kinda creepy, but its the truth lol!
Thanks guys

WHOA!!!
you talking about the boat or the admiral?
any way it depends on what you wash the boat with and if it takes the last wax job off.
if you use some thing like turtle wax wash for cars and boats it will not take the wax off

Re: can you overclean

why would you wax every week? a quality wax will last months even down here. in the summer, my boat is on the water 4 days a week , I'll wash it every trip but I only wax twice a year.

Wax away Stubbs...you won't hurt anything except your elbows. You can over compound because that removes gelcoat leaving a smoother and newer surface; so make sure your buying and using wax and not a compound or even a polish. I'll bring mine over next Monday since you enjoy this task so much.

Re: can you overclean

I love boating and most of my boating projects. The one project I dread is waxing the hull. I can't imagine waxing every week. That would ruin boating. I just did my annual wax job today. I know I should do it more than once a year, but I just hate that job. Your a better boater than me if you wax weekly.

I ache right now just thinking about that. No, you probably aren't gonna hurt anything, but like captsam said, it really isn't necessary. Have you looked into some of the premium waxes like collonite? Even 3m has some really durable products. Starbite is another one that comes to mind.
I have just spent 6 hrs this afternoon detailing a boat I helped a buddy buy. It needs a few things done, and the gelcoat was a little oxidized. Between my 7" Power buffer and my 10" random orbital, I will have very little physical work to do.
I don't expect to do this again on this boat for at least six months.
But, you probably aren't hurting anything! Good luck! :)

Oh ya . . . the way you just described how you feel about your boat is definitely creepy :D

I get this picture of you standing next to your boat on it's trailer, in one of those Elvis type Las Vegas wedding ceremonies.

Or the two of you sitting in a drive in restaurant sharing a hot dog.

Thanks for those images and get some help :)

Get over it . . . it's a boat not a SHEEP!

Re: can you overclean

just make sure the wax is non-abrasive :)

I am bad with that too, I wax my car once a week, its pure caranuba with no grit in it, meaning it rips no clearcoat, or in your case gelcoat off.

If you go to more than one, fresh water lakes. You should always stop by a car wash and spray off the hull. Hydrilla, "not sure of spelling?" is a REAL! problem. It is a weed that People dump from thier aquaium and will grow exponetionally. Wish I knew how to spell "exponetionally or even hydrilla?" I do, know that hydrilla? "said problem." grows on the surface and makes for a trolling motor nightmare! And is growing all the time. AND! is easily spread by "NOT!" cleaning the hull before putting in at a different lake! Just My .02!

Re: can you overclean

Thanks for all the replies guys!!

I actually dont wax each week mostly about every other week.
The boat was pretty heavily oxidized when I got her, so I compounded the entire boat (by Hand) and I just want to keep her in as good of shape as I can. Maybe cuz she is my first "real" boat or maybe I am obsessed with her I don't know but I will wax away. I use pure carnuba wax each time. I just love my boat and that is all there is too it.

Oh and btw Grego, I am pretty sure you got the spelling right on hydrilla. I am aware of this problem as I work in the water resource field, conservation and preservation areas. It is a problem that we scientists are trying to combat, loosing the battle right now but it is at least slowing up a bit. It chokes out rivers and lakes and kills off fish and even algae. Sucks up all the o2 in the water, really bad nasty invasive species.

You can definitely over wax your boat. That's why you should wax my boat to avoid any further damage to yours.:D
