I have a 85 Mariner 25HP on my Bass Tracker. I recently bought it and have been fixing odds and ends. Well the starter didn't wok when I bought it so I got a new Battery, Starter and cables. After hooking it all up the boat started 3 times and like a champ. Then when I bring it to the river it doesn't start and hasn't since. When i put a voltmeter on the starter side of the starter solenoid I only see 6.88 volts when on the battery side I see the full 12. I was told the starter needs 12V. Any ides on why I'm lossing 5 volts through my solenoid?
PS The boat pull starts on the first try almost every time.

Re: Can't electric start

Go to the Engine FAQs and do the starter circuit troubleshooting in "Outboard won't start".

Let us know what you find.
