I have a Force 9.9 hp motor from early to mid 90's. The lower gear housing and cage assembly are cracked. The part for the cage assembly is 817756A 2. This seems like a very common part on a lot of motors but it is listed as obsolete. So the question I have is what do i do? Do i take it to a machine shop and have them try and weld it? would Aluminum Epoxy hold it with the stress of the Gear assembly being there? Am a just out of luck? I can't see paying $660 for a $37 dollar part. Could I replace the housing and cage assembly with another model and reuse most of the parts? This is my first boat and I am just trying to figure out what options i have. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Below is a link to where i found most of my information and part numbers.

Serial # model# needed?
Depending on the cracked area if it can be welded???
Pictures?
The housing could be welded too??Pics.

You need to put in spaces between the words like, boats . net .com to post.
Alum.Epoxy won't last. The lower will heat up and cooldown and it will come loose.

It is a bit hard to see but the cracks are around the screws. the bottom screw is not even holding on to anything except the wing of the part that has broken off.
