1978 55hp evinrude.
While we were cruising on Saturday, the gas tank ran dry, so I filled up the tank with gas. About 2-3 minutes later, after I fired it up and starting cruising again. I thought that I forgot to put the oil in the gas, so we stopped the boat, checked the gas, sure enough, no oil.
So I put the oil in it, shook it up a bit and off we go. Just before the boat was to come to plane the motor would just bog down. It would not go past 1/2 throttle.
I checked the fuel filter(the screen) and nothing was blocking the gas. Gas can was vented as well.
So we fire it up again and the same thing happened. When I put the throttle all the way forward, it would get to 1/2 throttle and bog down again.
So, again, we stop the boat, check the fuel lines and all seem to be okay. I fire up the boat and off we go. Now it goes up on plane and all is fine. About 2 minutes later it bogs down again.
So we ended up just cruising back to the dock at 1/2 throttle.
Any ideas would be great. Thanks in advance...
Bro Chris...

I did the same thing. I ran my 112hp johnson super lean (almost no oil). I blew my top right cylinder (ZERO COMPRESSION). The other three are fine.
Check your compression- you may have run w/o lube and damaged your cylinders/pistons etc.

good luck
