I recently bought a 1994 Johnson 140 HP V-4 engine. The gear case was off when I bought it. I had to bend the shift shaft in order to get it to work properly. After replacing the power pack and the 4 coils, the engine would not get on plane. I have a 20' Aquasport. The prop is a 15 1/4" x 17". I tried a "test wheel" and the engine will not rev over 2500 RPM's. The lower unit gear ratio is 2:1. The fuel system and the carbs have been checked. The engine will rev to 5500 RPM's wih no load. I removed the gear case and noticed the spline on the main shaft was all chewed up. Does any know what the gear ratio should be? Also, any ideas why the engine won't rev under load?
