A lot of people find that since trailerable covers are expensive and often don't work that well, plus the risk of serious danger if they come off, that it works better overall to trailer uncovered and put the cover on when you park.

A custom made snap on cover would trailer fine and hold up for a long time. The down sides would be the cost and the necessity of installing snaps on your boat. My experience with off the shelf "trailerable" covers is that they really aren't.

I don't like to cover the boat/engine while trailering. Reason is that the wind whips the cover and acts like sand paper on the surface of the boat the the engine cowl. I'd rather get where I am going and if the rig is so dirty that I can't stand it, take it to a car wash and wash it before you go boating. BTDT

bought a cover from wal-mart for my boat. $79 dollars. Did a great job keeping the weather off of the inside of the boat while we moved from Seattle Area to San Diego. Tie it down tight and there shouldn't be much of a problem. Check the ties when you stop for gas or whatever.

I have a custom installed snap cover for the bow and cockpit made from sunbrella canvas. I've trailered it a couple of time with covers in place with no issues. I just find it easier to pull the covers before heading out to the lake and buttoning up when I get home. If we head to the coast I still pull the covers because we need to open it up to pack up the necessities for a weekend out.

Take it to a canvass shop. A cover made to fit your boat will not only fit properly, but will protect your boat when trailering. A custom cover for a boat your size goes for $300 to $500. And should last for about 7 years. A cheap package cover does not last, and often leads to moisture issues resulting in rotten plywood later.

I made this cover and several like it for other boats and they have all been trailered thousands of miles. Done right, a coer does not have to flap in the wind. You need to prevent air from getting under it. This cover is in two pieces. The main piece covers from the front deck to the back but leaves a portion of the bow open for the troller so i can cover the boat with the troller installed while moored. On the road, the troller comes off and the nose bra protects the at least some of the bow and overlaps the main cover. Now wind gets under it and yes -- it is a snap on with the snaps under the rail.

I also made this one in 1996. It is still in use today. Looking like heck because it was not taken care of but still in one piece.
