so on friday i was installing a remote starter for a custermer name joe (i install them at my house) so wile i was talking to him i heard something and then i see a tow truck stopping really quick infront of my driveway and out of no where i see this small gray pick up going right to my boat. all i was thinking of if someone was hurt in the truck, so i went to go look and lol i did not see no one in the truck so i was like wtf so i put the pick up and the tow truck together and i was like oh now i know what happend. the damn tow guy did not have any straps on the wheels or any lights on. insurance company is giving me a hard time cuz they dont know who to send to look at the trailer and boat so i am still waiting for the adjuster to find someone like wtf its not my job to find someone and the boat was in my yard... i took pics but yesterday i look at my boat more and i found that one of the rollers fell off and made a 6 inch hole in my boat. going to take more pics

Holy hell, man. Sorry to hear about your misfortune... I would wait to hear from insurance before doing ANYTHING.

Did you get the police there for a police report? If not, that towing company may try to claim it didn't happen, or that your boat was already banged up when it did happen.

(Sorry, I don't trust......)

Ummm, you will not get a new trailer. The trailer that is there is obviously in very rough shape! I would want a new trailer to. Just because you want a new trailer, doesn't mean you will get one. Glad no one was hurt.

Was the trailer and boat in working order and was the boat and trailer registered? Good luck on your claim!

Thats a good thing, because if they weren't....... ;)

I would look into getting a private surveyor involved as the estimators for the insurance company may not have a clue as to how to price your claim. Is the tow truck service insurance company who you are dealing with?

Call the cops back. It didn't happen on private property. It happened on a public street and spilled over onto private property. Plus tow companies are regulated by the city/county/state. There were two wrecks. One coming off the truck and second your property.

+1 HOPEFULLY you mean there wasn't a citation issued, which there should have been for improper load.... If there isn't a police report, it didn't happen, period. Don't expect a cent out of their insurance, you won't be getting one. The tow company wasn't even in that area that day, sorry... (i'm hoping you have some more pics showing the tow truck driver, the side paneling with the company name, and license plates...)

the cops were being lazy...plain and simple...they have tried to pull that on me several times when I have been hit in truck stop parking lots...sure it is private property, but if you demand they do a report for insurance they have to. most insurance companies wont accept a claim without it! Get them back out there to at least do a report proving time and place, parties involved, etc!

The state police is where you will have to get your report from if it is on private property. Atlast that is the way it is here in Kentucky. Had a lady back into my jeep a few years ago in a private parking lot in a shopping center. The police showed up but could not make the report because it was on private property. The only way they said they could do the report is if there was an injury. Check with your state police and ask what you have to do to report the accident.

I really don't think you will need a police report, but it is good to have if it gets nasty.

Lynn, that is bizarre. One never knows what will happen it seems. The driver was clearly negligent, and as such it is his company's responsibility to take care of this. You need to contact them immediately and ascertain their intentions, but before you do determine exactly what needs to be done to make this right (be reasonable with your expectations). Then, if you and they don't work something out in a reasonable amount of time contact your area's towing and recovery board for advice on how to proceed. They will likely give you a contact at the towing company and recommend that you instruct your insurance carrier to go after them if you're unable to get it taken care of on your own. Unfortunately, I'd suggest being prepared to get the runaround before this is resolved. Towing companies don't typically enjoy the most stellar reputations.

One option you may have if you have a policy on the boat and trailer is to let your insurance company settle with you and then they will go back against the tow truck`s insurance carrier for reimbursement.

I am quite confused over this. Say for example the car was parked in a neighbors driveway directly across the street, vandals broke in, put it neutral and pushed it across the street into your boat and trailer, would the police be saying they cannot do a report because it is private property? What if your boat got vandalized...same response? Unless you are your own sovereign nation, why can't they do a report? The incident commenced on a public thoroughfare, correct....something seems a little "off".

Be glad it was your boat and not your customer's; your homeowners insurance wouldn't cover it--but the tow driver's might.

Looks to me like you have scuffs on the hull but no cracks? In that case don't expect much more than a wax job. As for the trailer, looks like just the winch post? Then that's all you get.

An insured accident is not a lottery ticket; at most you get put back where you were before the event: with an old boat and old trailer. Hardly sounds worth messing with

Re: car fell off tow truck and hit my parked boat & trailer

when i get out of work in a few i am going to call the insurance for the tenth time and see the satus of my clam. also yes i do have all the info from the driver wich was the owner of the companey and yes i also have pics of the truck but i did not put it up here cuz i dont kow if i can put that kind of info here so i did notr add the companey name or pics.... also when i get home i will stop by the "cops house" and see if they made a report if not i will see if they can make one. wgl333 the town workers was working next to my house and they called the cops cuz they knocked down the mph sign then the truck jumped a small wall and stright to my trailer, so cops came and looked at what happend and just came up to me and said 'arthur ya just call the insurance and tell them what happend" and then they left. called the insurance made the clame with his insurance and till today i did not hear anything from no one... just tell let everyone know we both have the same insurance companey....
