My carb is located in such a way behind the thermostat housing, that I can't get to the air/fuel mix screws. I bought a tool with a long flexible shaft, but the quarters are too close for it to work.

What can you all suggest??

Gonna be a beeeeach, but take the themostat housing loose enough to get the tool in to use it, then retighten temporarily each time you have to make an adjustment. Then, when ya get her where ya want her, install a new gasket and tighten it down.

I have a socket for those funny shaped adjusting screws that I got from SnapOn tools a long time ago, ended up welding a nut on the end of it so I could grip it with thumb and finger for adjusting.

Adjuster Socket

How much room do you have between screws and stat housing an inch and a half maybe,if so get a socket that fits 1/4 incher and weld a thin piece of rod to it [L] configueration May have to cut socket to clear when adjusting, pulling off and on.Or take your flex tool and cut it to fit with some clearance and of coarse duct tape on the end so you can turn it

Thanks guys. Seahorse, the tool I bought is simular to the one's you posted.

Looks like I'll try the socket/nut mod. Althought with my big clumsy fingers, it's gonna be a biatch!

Wotnot... thanks for the suggestion, but that is way too messy and just not practicle.

Dolluper... duct tape?? LOL! :D :D

Re: Carb Adjusting tool

my idea is similar to dolluper's, but anyways. had me a watercraft with the same story, couldn't get a grip on the mix screws. so i jb welded a small wire (or whatever else ya can think of to make a t for it)right to the the mix screw to make a t-turn for it......

If you don't want to magiver anything look at the small offset ratchet sets the 1/4 incher's they are thin and would probably fit easily. I've used mine in some real tight carb jobs.Check auto stores you will see them they are cheap and save the duct tape for more important ventures
