carb leaking gas, what does that mean?

My carb is leaking gas when I try and start it, I was pumping up the bulb and once it was hard it started shooting gas out the carb what does that mean???

Most likey the needle and seat in the carb is defective. Remove the carb and overhaul, install new needle and seat.

I am trying to get it out this season for Salmon hopefully and don't want to rebuild the carb right now if I don't absolutely have to, if I can get it to start will this be ok till I can rebuild this winter?

We narrowed it down that one of the spark plug wires isn't working, without the plugs in the engine turns over quite nicely but with them both in it barely turns, ideas? We are trying to get the flywheel off right now.

You are asking for trouble to run with a bad carb.
We need the model and year to be able to help further,
