on the older motors I have owned I have made it a habit to disconect the fuel line at the motor and run the carbs it dry, being as a lot of them have cork floats , and over time they absorb fuel and become heavy and pieces of cork plug the jets. the carb on the ns40c has a plastic float, it was recently rebuilt and is working fine, and i would like to keep it that way, old habits are hard to break, any reason not to run it dry

Run it dry. That used to be "good advice". Today, it's critical. The floats would have been only part of the equation. Today's fuel leaves so many deposits as it evaporates that not running the carb out is sure to lead to varnished passages and the resultant dip cleaning.
