Carb Question

I have a 07-08 Glastron GT-185 with the 3.0 l motor (VP) GLP-E.

I was working in the engine compartment and noticed a hissing. Upon further invstigation, I found that on the back side of the choke coil is an open vacuum port. The port has a compression fitting on it, but no tubing going to it. The choke is electric, and I noticed no difference in RPMs when I plugged it with my finger. I'm just curious if the dealer forgot something in preping the boat or if it's also set up for a vacuum choke also.

Thanks,
Chuck

Re: Carb Question

I have the same thing on my carb. Mine doesn't go to anything either. I cannot feel any suction or hear hissing from it. Are you sure this is the source of the noise? Have you checked the throttle shaft for excessive play? With motor running, spray carb cleaner around shaft and base of carb, if it revs up there is your leak. (As you can see I too am a Cadet there are probably better ways to locate the problem and identify what that compression fitting is for)

Re: Carb Question

I forgot to mention in my original post that it is a Holley 2bbl carb.

QUOTE: "I cannot feel any suction or hear hissing from it."

Mine has a very strong draw on it. The vacuum hiss is very noticable and it will give your finger a small hickey after just a few seconds.

As I stated in my original post though, there is no difference in the motor's running if I plug it or not. I don't like that there's an open port for the motor to draw in water and bugs etc.

Re: Carb Question

I should be under warranty. Take it back to the dealer.

Re: Carb Question

I know it's under warranty, I'm just curious if this is normal, and why.

I haven't been able to obtain ANY manual for the motor yet because it's an 07and aren't available yet. I'm sure an 06 manual would work, but I'm not spending the money for a maybe.
