Carb rebuild quick question

Hi All,

I'm cleaning & rebuilding carbs (my first time ever rebuild) on a 2001, 90 Hp, V-4, two stroke Johnson and have a question.

The (OEM) needle valve rebuild kit comes with a nylon, valve seat gasket, and the original valve seat has none. Should I install the gasket or not? It seems to affect the way the float drops (less movement with the gasket on).

Also, the new needle valve is all metal, and the original has what seems to be a rubber tip. Has OMC/Bombardier changed the needle valve design on these models?

Thank you so much for any help!

Both new and old float valve needles should have rubber tips. The new ones are silver colored, but closer examination will reveal that they are still rubber.

Thanks Ezeke,

I looked closer and yes they are rubber as you said. What do you think I should do about the gasket for the valve seat? I'm inclined to go with original installation-no gasket.

Thanks
