Not the conventional flat blade screw adjustment. Motor has a small barrel with a 5 star headed screw inside, how do I adjust the carberator

Welcome to Iboats,

Why do you need to adjust the Pilot Screw on that carb ? Is the screw visible or hidden under something ?

Everybody picks on the carburetor it seems.----Did this rough running show up suddenly ? --What other trouble shooting has been done if any.----Carburetors do not suddenly go out of adjustment I say.

The motor is running raspy and ruff. Happens at idle, fast idle or any other throttle setting ? Is the motor being run at sea or high altitude water level ?

Before fingering the carb, remove both spark plugs, clean them with any carb cleaner spray, re gap them to factory specs or if found too fouled install 2 new ones, clean the fuel tank, lines and fuel filters as well and test again.

Being a 13 year oldie 2 stroke motor will benefit running a long application of CRC decarbonizer fluid through the carb's throat, this stuff smooths out any 2 stroke motor that has never before been decarbonized. Follow can instructions...

Many outboards do not get a lot of use.---Winter , snow and ice are one reason here.----Just took apart a 1965 model Evinrude 6 HP.----Pistons measure original size.-----Rings still showed factory machining marking.----Barely broken in !!-----Trouble shooting should be done before deciding on the ----" it must be the carburetor "---approach.

new plugs, I will try the engine tune up but I would like to know how to adjust the carburetor on this year outboard. As i said, there is no conventional screw like most carburetors to adjust, only the barrel with a 5 star headed screw inside the barrel. The star headed screw seems to tighten the barrel.
