carb in question is a small base 2gc, P/N 17059054 off a 1980 Mercruiser 120 4 banger. This is to the best of my knowledge the original carb. Well, the accellerator pump is shot. The checkball at the bottom of the passage is corroded in there but good, cannot remove, and no shot of fuel when pumping the throttle.... needless to say the engine runs like dogcrap coming off idle due to this.
Carb was cleaned and gaskets redone last summer as part of a larger re-commissioning of the engine and drivetrain. I missed this checkball....
The way I see it, the best option is to replace the carb with one that hasnt been exposed to the ravages of time and corrosion. I am having issues finding someplace that has a reman carb that replaces this piece. Mostly what I see are new build carbs, but they are by and large the "larger" base (3 3/4 vs 3 1/4 as I need). Others are a new build Mercarb, but I dont know the base size on a Mercarb....
does anyone here know of a good rebuilder, or the size on a Mercarb that I can use as a near direct replacement for the low grade boat anchor that is on my bench????
